Despite the shark incident from Day 11, my husband and I liked walking the pier so much we went back for round two. This time I avoided the end of the boardwalk where the wannabe “shark slayers” had stationed themselves, and focused on everybody else.
Now that the weather has warmed up again, the community of regular pier anglers is out in full force. They laugh and joke with each other, exchange fishing tips, and answer questions the tourists have about the local beaches. You can tell who the regulars are because they have top-notch equipment and comfy chairs for long hours of reeling. They were also the most successful, pulling in tons of Spanish Mackerel.
A few of them teased me when they noticed how many times I walked back and forth, but that’s okay. I got my steps!
