I mentioned in a previous post that I live and work right next to the beach, but I don’t always take the time to get out and enjoy it. Such a mistake.
For Day 9, I opted to rectify that. With temperatures hovering in the low 80’s and barely a cloud in the sky, it was the perfect time to take a stroll down the beach.
My husband and I parked at the Santa Rosa area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The parking lots were crowded, but mere yards from the entrance people disappeared and we had the whole shoreline to ourselves. I hate to say it, but that’s pretty typical for the natural areas around here (and across the country probably).
Walking in the sand can be hard. I had to work extra to push off against the soft piles, or stride at an angle as the tide receded. One hour in and we had only gone a little over two miles. On the other hand, the gorgeous emerald water made everything worth it.
