Daily 5 Mile Challenge: Day 8

Pouring rain in the morning meant that I packed some gym clothes for a post-work Planet Fitness session, but as the sun ascended light broke through the clouds, and by the time I left the office giant patches of blue covered the sky. I immediately abandoned my gym plans, and stopped at another recreation area on Eglin Air Force Base.

The road starts paved, and stretched flat in front of me. Because of the morning downpour, large puddles soaked the side of the road as well as the low-lying forest areas. The air was dominated by frog songs. One particular species brayed exactly like sheep, giving a loud, “Baaaahhhhhhhhh,” whenever I passed. It was hilarious.

After the asphalt section the road turns to bright red dirt, contrasting with the deep green of the pine and palmetto forest on either side. My shoes were covered in mud from the damp dirt, but I didn’t care. Four miles on base, another one mile at home, and I was done for the day!
